Leeds by Emily Saliers

Capital letters are chords, & lowercase letters are notes. Here are the chords I used, in case you never learned how to play chords on piano: G--g b d D--d f# a F/C--c f a C--c e g F--f a c Dm--d f a G/D--d g b X--b e a (I have no clue what the name of this is, so I called it X.) Y--e g b (same thing) Cm--c e flat g Em/B--b e g I play all chords as the high versions (above or directly below Middle C), except where there's a * next to the chord/note, meaning I play the lower version, & except & Y, which I always play low. Intro: G G g D* D* d* F/C* F/C* c* d g flat c e G G g D* D* d* F/C* F/C* c* d g flat c e G G D D C C d g flat c e It's dark at 4 pm in Leeds G G D D Dm Dm Dm Dm C the steeples pierce the skylight till the last of it bleeds G G D D F F C The absent sound of another day as it recedes C Dm C into the shadows G/D Dm C G until it's nothing G G D D C C d g flat c e Fax papers slipped under the hotel room door G G D D Dm Dm Dm Dm C like food for the prisoner or the prospect to the whore G G D D F F Well fed and halfway drunk, I ache myself for more C Dm C G C C C until I'm shadows of myself until I'm nothing C C Cm Cm X X Sixteen black churches burning on the TV C C Cm Cm X X X all the way from Texas to Tennessee C C Cm Cm X X a politician locks my eye and says to me C C Cm Cm Cm Cm C C C there is no crisis here there's no conspiracy G G D D F/C F/C F/C D C I crave inertia, every move made so I can stop G G D D Dm Dm Dm Dm Dm C Whatever this madness is in me spinning like a top G G D D F F on a bed of anxiety over a deep dark drop C C Dm C G down into nothingness C C G into withoutyouness C C Cm Cm X X Was it ever so the evil creep like ivy, C C Cm Cm X X toe hold on the stronger half of nature's dichotomy C C Cm Cm Em/B Em/B Em/B Beating back a path through nothing more than pure insistence C C Cm Cm C C Until here becomes the distance Piano solo: G G g D* D* d* F/C* F/C* c* d g flat c e G G g D* D* d* F/C* F/C* c* d g flat c e (And something else that I can't figure out.) G G G Y Y F F d g flat c e Hold my head love I'm sick tonight G G D D Dm Dm Dm Dm Dm C find the open hole and press your finger there with all your might G G D D F F before the last ounce of my spirit bleeds C Cm Em/B onto the pristine sheets of the hotel bed in Leeds That's it! It took longer than I thought to type it all out. If it looks messed up on your screen, e-mail me, & I can try to send it as an attached Word file or something. I hope this helped someone...
